Holiday Around the Table
We all know that one of the best things about the holiday season is the savouring food, like SO much food that when January hits, everyone owns a gym membership!
I'm not complaining one bit because I live for ALL the food, and that's another reason why I enjoy Christmas parties because food is always involved ;) Each year my mom switches the menu up and we always have SO many leftovers to take home, which if you ask me, is the best ;) We always have a traditional meal, and Christmas Eve is full of all the goodies and finger foods. To be quite honest, Brent and I have never hosted any holiday celebrations at our own home with our family. I also have never served a turkey dinner, is that weird!? I mean our house is a nice cozy size to host a few guests, but in my family, everyone always stays over and we really don't have enough room to accommodate our entire fam unless a few of us feel like bunking up. Someday, I'm going to make it my mission to host Christmas, have enough beds for our family and cook a gigantic feast (even though it will never top my Mother's)!
What I love about our Helix dining table is how much larger this baby can go!! In these photos you are only seeing the small version. We actually have two additional leafs stored in the junk room and one day, I tell you, I'm going to bust those leafs out and we are going to have one heck of a dinner. I'm pretty sure I have the "tablescape" part covered. Speaking of that, I have shared 5 Ways to Decorate the Table with Nature over on the Leon's Hello Yellow Blog, checker' out!
See how I made this DIY Ribbon Christmas Tree, here.
If you're wondering where we spend our Christmas', we are usually between mine and Brent's parents. For as long as I can remember, Christmas Eve at my parents has always been about munching away on hors d'oeuvres and watching some of our favourite Christmas classics! The boys stay up a little bit later, wearing their new pjs, talking about Santa and listening closely to the wind howling over the snow drifts and waiting for the sound of Santa's bells.
I remember as a little girl, when it was bedtime the night before Christmas, I couldn't sleep, I tossed and turned soooo freaking excited to see what Santa had put under the Christmas tree. At the crack of dawn I would sneak down the stairs and peek over the railing to see what was sitting by the tree (Santa's gifts were never wrapped). Once I got a good look, I would run back up the stairs and wake my little brother. Then we would run into our parents bedroom and get them to hurry along so we could see what Santa had brought. There was always that one toy I adored more than anything and from an early age, I learned to appreciate and love the things I have always wanted most. With the boys getting older and starting to understand the whole concept of Christmas, Brent and I have made it our mission to teach the boys what Christmas is really about- the birth of baby Jesus and the time for giving by helping others and spending time with our loved ones.So if you asked me now what I enjoy most about Christmas, it's sitting around the table with family, eating and sharing the funniest of funny stories about one another, you know the embarrassing ones that make you squirm or leave the room. I'm pretty sure my Mom embarrassed me so bad in front of my boyfriend, Brent, at the time, that I left the dinner table. We can go a little overboard at times but now Brent is the one that gets picked on ;)How do you spend your Christmas? Any fun family traditions, new or old!?Have a Merry Christmas, friends :)
